Donate aluminum scraps to cover the cost of production of prosthetic legs.
The Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother would like to clarify the historical use of donated aluminum. Over 20 years ago, the foundation crafted prosthetic legs using recycled materials, including plastic bottles from Yakult yoghurt bottles and aluminum from can lids. The plastic bottles were dissolved to form prosthetic sockets, while aluminum was melted into bars and machined for prosthetic shafts. The resulting lightweight prosthetic legs, provided free of charge to amputees, demonstrated satisfactory performance, boasting advantages such as (1) light weight and (2) ample strength to support the body weight of users. However, certain drawbacks were identified, particularly in aluminum components, which exhibited deformation under torque due to its inherent hardness and lower flexibility compared to other metals.
As scientific and technological knowledge advances in Thailand, particularly in materials science, the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother actively seeks more durable, strong, and flexible materials. This pursuit aims to enhance service life and ensure safety, aligning with the international prosthetics standard ISO 10328. Currently, the foundation utilizes two types of metals in its prosthetic leg designs: highgrade aluminum and stainless steel, known for greater ductility compared to standard aluminum. To secure necessary materials, the Prostheses Foundation sells donated aluminum to industrial factories, generating funds necessary for procuring quality materials meeting international standards. This sustainable approach benefits both the foundation and the environment. The foundation encourages those with faith to continue their support, suggesting the sale of gathered aluminum in large quantities. The proceeds can be donated or transferred to the Prostheses Foundation for optimal efficiency in crafting prosthetic legs. Additionally, contributors can use the receipt for tax deductions.
Your donated aluminum parts to the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother contribute to the fabrication of prosthetics in Thailand, indirectly benefiting less fortunate amputees. Even a simple act, like donating a can ring enables you to continue supporting the provision of prosthetic legs to amputees. If you are interested in further contributing, you can contact and deliver additional aluminum to locations participating in the aluminum donation project for the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother.
The Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother, in collaboration with
the Pollution Control Department and Thailand Post, coordinates a project to donate
aluminum for crafting prosthetics. This initiative aims to:
1. Minimize the volume of waste requiring disposal.
2. Cut down on transportation costs associated with aluminum.
3. Contribute to merit-making for disabled individuals.
You can deliver aluminum materials to the following addresses:

... On behalf of all amputees and the staff of the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother, I extend heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support. Your commitment to the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother is truly appreciated....
“Accepting donations of stockings, unlimited quantity.”
The Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother welcomes unlimited
donations of stockings to be utilized in the prosthetic leg production process.
Currently, due to limited contributions of used stockings, the foundation allocates
funds from donations to purchase them for the production of prosthetic legs.
Recognizing various ways to support amputees, the foundation emphasizes that
individuals can contribute through diverse means, including monetary donations,
aluminum contributions, and donations of used stockings. This presents another
avenue for individuals to actively participate in providing high-quality prostheses for
effective use in daily life.
“Why do we need to use stockings in the prosthetic leg manufacturing
process?”
The stockings naturally conform to the shape of the legs, and during the
prosthetic production phase, The Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother
employs them in crafting prosthetic leg sockets. These sockets are integral to creating
leg stump puppets and crafting plastic sockets based on leg contours. Once this
process is complete, the stockings are no longer needed and are typically discarded.
Receiving donations of used stockings would be highly beneficial as it supports the
recycling of materials for alternative uses, contributing positively to the environment.
“Stockings accepted for donation, no limit on size, condition, and color.”
You can contribute to assisting amputees today through simple acts in your
daily life. These small gestures have the power to boost morale and positively impact
the lives of amputees, allowing them to maintain a sense of normalcy and a good
quality of life.
